SCOPE
design, fabrication
Initiated as an ongoing production for Another Castle, a techno after-hours series in Los Angeles, this work consists of a modular play environment built from a standard ringlock scaffolding system and a canopy of customizable fabric panels. Conceived as a cruising grove, the installation creates a shifting matrix of collective pleasure and an architecture that is continually undone and remade by the bodies moving through it.
Each fabric panel, sized to the scaffolding interval and fitted with spring-snap hooks, can be rapidly clipped or unclipped to serve multiple roles: as a screen, a sling, a hammock, a partition, or a roof. These components allow the grove to transform from enclosed pockets of intimacy to more open interiors, as participants rearrange the structure over time. What begins as an initial configuration quickly evolves, collapsing and reassembling through furtive meetings, improvisational encounters, and the soft labor of bodies entwining.
